Description
Systems that use artificial intelligence (AI) are becoming present in more and more parts of our lives, subtly guiding daily life from listening to music to getting stopped by the police. But what does this technology really mean for people, now and in the future? What happens when we have developed computer systems that can do things we previously thought only humans could do? Written by Mimi Onuoha and Mother Cyborg (Diana Nucera), The People's Guide to A.I. is a beginner's guide to understanding AI and other data-driven tech. The guide, written in accessible language and featuring workbook activities for interactive learning, uses a popular education approach to explain AI-based technologies so that everyone--from youth to seniors, from non-techies to experts--has the chance to think critically about the kinds of futures automated technologies can bring. The mission of The People's Guide to A.I. is to open discussion around AI by demystifying and shifting the narrative about what types of uses AI can have for everyday people. The guide began as a PDF and print pamphlet; this present edition marks its first appearance as a book, now with new, updated content and design.Mimi Onuoha (born 1989) is a Nigerian American, Brooklyn-based media artist and researcher who has been in residence at Eyebeam Art & Technology Center, Studio XX, Columbia University's Tow Center and the Royal College of Art. Onuoha earned her MPS from NYU Tisch's Interactive Telecommunications Program, where she is currently a researcher.Organizer and artist Mother Cyborg, also known as Diana Nucera, released her debut album, Pressure Systems, in 2017.
